Another cheap way to convert VHS to digital is to plug the VHS player into the TV and the audio into your DSLR mic input and record the TV in a dark room with the audio in sync as it plays. This is similar to old 'telecine' methods of transferring film to video and it is very low tech provided you have a DSLR that can record video, preferably. How to convert VHS to digital on Mac. I hope someone can help me. I want to import all my VHS and SuperHi8 tapes into IMovie or FCP to edit and save. I want the highest quality source to work with.
I hear the USB capture devices are not great and are to be avoided. Apple sells the Elgato Video Capture product which makes me think it must be ok, but I hear that if your source is scratchy then it will do a poor job and keeps needing restarting. Is this correct ?

I understand the ADVC110 is excellent, but does not have Thunderbolt (it has Firewire). MacBook pro does not have firewire.
So I need a device with time base correction and hopefully clean up the quality a bit and that can output into Thunderbolt. Any suggestions ?
Your help will certainly be appreciated.
